Amy for President! Preet for Veep!

As of today, the forms for student government are due. As far as I’m aware, there are two presidential candidates and nine vice-presidential ones. As president, along with Preet, we will fight to make the government more efficient while enabling the students to participate in both decisions and events. The more feedback that you give us, the more we will be able to do what you want us to as officers. Please vote Amy Myers for President and Preet Parekh for Vice-President. We won’t let you down!

  1. Hello, Amy
I hope you receive this because it seems to be the only way to send you an e-mail via the site. I hope I’m writing to the Amy Myers who has challenged Michelle Bachmann to a debate. I am incredibly impressed and proud.

I am the author of the book “Congress for Dummies,” which I wrote in 2002 to serve as a simple, accessible guide to the US Congress. If you need any assistance that I can provide or you would like a copy please e-mail me at my address (which I presume you can get from your site).

It is long overdue for someone to challenge this individual on her factual errors and her egregious ignorance of the US Constitution, American history and the United States government. I am very pleased that you chose to do so.

From all of us out there, thank you so very much.

  2. Hi Amy,

Just read about your challenge to Rep. Bachmann, great work. You go girl! I’m a big believer in helping this nation’s young people participate in the political process. I’d love to see her accept your invitation, but I think we all know she won’t, as she has nothing to gain and a lot to lose.

If you’ve never seen the movie “Election” (1999), I think you’d do well to watch it. It’s all about the political process and what people will do and say just to get elected. It’s very funny and poignant, perhaps more to you than most.
Best to you, we’ll all be eagerly following your future political career!

    Sincerely,
    Jim

  3. Hello Amy,
It takes a great deal of confidence to challenge any leader in our government, your bold letter is impressive and you are to be commended for this, however I had some questions out of curiosity. Why just Michelle Bachmann, why not every leader in our government? Another question I have is what does gender have to do with it? She isn’t the first female representative, nor the only or even the last female we’ll ever have in government. I guess my most poignant question would be what specifically has she said that caused this challenge to come about and please be specific?
    Look forward to your reply
    Dee

  4. Are you the Amy Myers mentioned here?: http://news.yahoo.com/s/yblog_thelookout/high-schooler-challenges-michelle-bachmann-to-constitution-showdown#mwpphu-container

    If so…

Beautiful. Eloquent. And yet it will remain unfortunately unchallenged. A true pity, because if nothing else this would have made incredible web-viewing.

Cynicism aside, I really am very proud of you (not that I have the right of ownership such that I can be proud) for having the mighty brass ones to take on an albeit foolish representative.

You have, at least, given youth a more public and direct way to question our leadership. Voter apathy aside, your showy and erudite challenge gives a figurehead onto which to pin examples and stories. In my hope of hopes, I’m hoping your newsworthiness proves inspiring to more by the nature of its absolutely polite demands.

Incidentally, if you are not the specific Amy Myers, I would still commend you on the quality of your blog and seeming similar aspirations.

Good fortune to you in all your travels.

  5. Amy, I am a retired Air Force officer and retired college teacher of history and sociology. Those closest to me are, like me, tremendously impressed with with the courage and intelligence of your letter to Michele Bachmann. We never cease to be amazed at how someone in her position has such a deficient and inaccurate knowledge of U.S. history, the Constitution, the economy, and the political process. We place Sarah Palin and Christine O”Donnell (who lost the 2010 Delaware race for U.S. Senate) in the same cohort. With all of the intelligent and knowledgeable women serving this nation in so many endeavors, it’s a shame that these three are the fodder for late night comedians and cable talk shows.
